The Happy Corners

Aesthetic Chase 05: A corner is a natural alcove where the introvert can be true to self, the extrovert can unwind the excess cheer and for an in-between person like me can weigh down the lows and highs and just be happy.

“Go stand in the corner facing the wall”, the most common phrase for a punishment given by elders to mischievous kids. Why is a corner the most despised among all spaces?
The unpopularity of a corner derives from the understanding that it brings about negativity. Two walls meet with no further choice of extension. The lack to develop for these two walls initiates no positivity. Hence the thought is popularized; corners aren’t a happy place.
But like in all our earlier chases; I choose to differ. I personally love spending time in the corners of my home. For me, it’s my happy space where I can unwind my energies for the activities I love the most. A corner is a natural alcove where the introvert can be true to self, the extrovert can unwind the excess cheer and for an in-between person like me can weigh down the lows and highs and just be happy. But to create this room within a room in a corner, it needs to be treated. How? Below are a few thoughts and ways to bring about that happy corner in your homes.

All rooms have corners but not all can be treated. But can be made a part of the room.Seating arrangement that engulfs the corners is the ready solution to not waste the corners and to bring them alive.

If it’s a formal living room, the idea for cozy corners will not work. Make them look impressive by creating corner gallery walls or use them for smart storage.

Symmetry is a good design principle that can work if there are two similar corners facing each other. But don’t overdo it.

Asymmetry also works, but the differences should not be overtly striking.

Introducing a random contrast seating in the corner dramatizes the harmony of the room. The color textures and accessories that come with it can also be in contrast to the unifying theme in the room.

If you have no reason to use the corners for, bring it life through colors, textures, light or through a single artifact.

The corners in the bedrooms are the most exciting. It can be put to varied needs. You can create a reading corner (the most common).

You can create an activity niche for your hobbies.

Or bring about a wardrobe solution.

It can also work as a corner where you showcase your likes.

It can be your inspirational corner

Or your de-stressing corner.

The kitchen corners are an exciting piece to study. They are mostly worked out as corner storages. But this storage is usually a dead space because one cannot easily reach out to anything stored here. Also keeping it clean and hygiene becomes a strenuous task. When designing your kitchen cabinet, try and leave out the corners unless necessary. Corners should be made accessible. Introduce an interesting seating area or pull out storage units.

Here below are a few more happy corners that I found interestingly made cheerful.
So how do you intend to make your corners happy? Or do you have them happy already. Share your thoughts and images in the comments below.
