Another reason to Celebrate February

Aesthetic Chase 03-"my role was more or less like that of the fairy godmother working her magic wand on pumpkins and mice to create chariots and charioteers."

It’s February, the month of love as it’s popularly known. And I was rewinding my mind into a few landmarks that have crossed my life during this time of the year in the past. It struck me quickly; this was the month in the past where I had started my journey in discovering my skills to advocate aesthetics for real. Since this blog is all about aesthetics, how can I not mention my first stint in putting it into reality block.

It was in a February in 2007 when I had just completed a year in learning design and I was in my hometown welcoming the rains like every other middle-east expatriate. We were also on our journey to build a new abode where our dreams of a space we love to live in will be nurtured. And since I had started to learn and know a little in how spaces are transformed aesthetically. I took the lead. And our dream home came into being. It canvases my baby steps into understanding and transforming spaces where my role was more or less like that of the fairy godmother working her magic wand on pumpkins and mice to create chariots and charioteers.

Here is a picture story into how I have induced aesthetics to each space keeping in mind the function, user experience, traditional inspirations and individual tastes and likes.

The accent wall near the staircase is a fine example of how to attract an eye through strong colors and magnitude. The contrast color, the texture variation and an artifact that embodies the wall yet remains subtle because of his subject ( the Buddha) completes the concept here.

The accent wall on the upper floor is treated with a memorabilia of family photos forming a background and foreground to the aatu kattil (swing in Malayalam) in the hall way.

The hallway is also accentuated by the two regular stone clad pillars lit on the top. The top lit pillars, the atrium opening and the swing together give a picture of a seating at a lane in a park.

The Home Theatre room is an amalgamation of ideas and desires to a perfect home movie-viewing atmosphere.( The movie buffs in the family just got too excited while  bringing in direct notations such as movie posters and symbolic graphics! )

The major functional areas like the bedrooms, living and dining were all individually themed with custom made furniture and furnishings.

The little snippets that work aesthetics along with a function or stay just as art for art's sake

My thought process was simple. My design brain size was like a pod just getting nurtured. All I had thought of this exercise was to imply a sense of visual beauty to every space. Each space had to invite its users on a functional level and the onlookers for its visual impression. And these pictures mark my toddler steps in interior designing. It all happened along the three years of study in design. Since then I have grown. My design ideas have grown. My horizons have widened. But your first baby is always the most special. Isn’t it?

...And there I find another reason to celebrate February...My design anniversary!!! :) :) :)
